Intro

Kindred Systems is excited to announce the development of our new CAD software, forked from FreeCAD 1.0.2

We will be adding features that would otherwise not be well-suited to a purely community-based CAD software like FreeCAD, although we will do our best to commit bug fixes upstream that apply to both FreeCAD and Kindred Create.

We plan on a weekly release on Friday evenings. The software is and always will be totally free and open-source under the same licensing as FreeCAD. You can view and contribute on the Kindred Systems Gitea instance, at our git page.

Kindred Systems will be providing learning materials, webinars, courses, and support. We will do our best to provide this as economically as possible, at a significant fraction of the cost of other commercially supported CAD software.

Features

Heres a few functionalities and features planned or already in progress for Kindred Create:

  • Improved, simplistic look and feel for accelerating workflows. Catppuccin Mocha is our official theme across all software products, which provides easy-viewing and clear contrast. Catppuccin also offers a style guide.
  •  Silo PDM/PLM integration and standalone server for managing products with a database, ready for commercial integrations with ERP and MRP systems. Complete with a configurable part numbering schema that simplifies and enhances the new part creation process.
  • Improved solid modelling features, and a more capable task dialogue aimed at commercial users
  • Graph-Neural-Network based assembly mating and joint solver. Based on OndselSolver, Kindred Create will have its own multi-layer assembly solver that will simplify the assembly joining process to avoid over constrained assemblies, which is a tendency of base FreeCAD's solver.

Goals

Some high level goals of the Kindred Create project include:

  • Provide entrepreneurs and engineers accessible, high-quality tools the ability to pursue their ideas
  • Allow for the adoption of Linux and open-source tech stacks in the field of mechanical engineering.
  • Create a community where innovation and new thinking is rewarded and accelerated through shared opportunity.

Community

We would love to have you join our community! Everything you do to engage with the Kindred Create project helps us reach our goals! We have our forum and our Gitea website for providing a place where you can fork Kindred Create and work on your own features and ideas. We will be providing compute and storage resources for Kindred Create related development, so no need to pay for cloud services to move your idea forward!

Acknowledgements

Of course, Kindred Create would absolutely not be possible without the 20+ years of development FreeCAD has had. FreeCAD is the result of many people with an ultimately similar vision to ours, and we thank anyone who's furthered FreeCAD in any way. Here is the FreeCAD project GitHub and Forum.
